Marnus Labuschagne Dropped from Australia's One-Day International Squad to Face Team India

Labuschagne finds himself omitted from Australia's three-match ODI series against India, with in-form Queensland colleague Matt Renshaw receiving a shock selection.

Recent Form Result in Exclusion

The right-hander was left out from the one-day international side following being dismissed for one in his two batting efforts during the top-end series against South Africa in August. The right-hander has a highest score of 47 in his most recent ten ODI batting appearances.

The batsman has featured in 68 one-day internationals and scored 1,871 runs at an average of 34.64 runs per dismissal, but will now focus on earning a Test team comeback in time for the Ashes beginning in Perth on 21 November.

Renshaw's Return and Team Updates

There have been indications of a improvement in form with a score of 160 for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield this week, while Renshaw made a century for the Bulls in the identical match against Tasmania.

Renshaw could to make his white-ball international debut in the forthcoming series against India after last being included in an ODI squad in 2022.

The left-hander has played 14 Test matches with the most recent appearance in India in 2023 but is also seeking a return to the Test team as Australia look for a solution to their opening batting issues.

Pace Returns and Injury Updates

Left-arm quick Mitchell Starc is back for the ODI series against India after having time off since performing well for Australia in the whitewash of West Indies in July.

Big Bash star Mitch Owen might get his ODI debut after being concussed in the lead up to Australia’s last 50-over series against South Africa.

ODI captain Pat Cummins continues to be absent as he aims to recover from a spinal issue in time to captain Australia in the opening Test of the Ashes in November.

Team Announcement Strategy and Fixtures

Australia have announced a squad for only the initial two T20 matches against India with the Ashes approaching, although Glenn Maxwell will miss all of the five-match series due to a wrist injury suffered in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will lead both the ODI and T20 teams after scoring a hundred in the last match against New Zealand to clinch a series clean sweep last week.

“We have named a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be player management through the later stages of the series as players get ready for the cricket season through domestic first-class matches,” Australia chair of selectors George Bailey said.
“The bulk of the T20 squad will stay as a group as it’s an important period in the preparation for the T20 World Cup next year, however we are aiming to find equilibrium to ensure we simultaneously prepare specific players for the Test series ahead.”

Australia’s three-match ODI series against India commences on October 19 in Perth, before the rivals play five T20 internationals from 29 October.
