Djokovic Issues Warning to Jannik Sinner: Suspension Will Follow Him Like a "Cloud"

Novak Djokovic has cautioned Jannik Sinner that his three-month ban for doping will linger over his career as a constant shadow – while also questioning the timing of the penalty last year.

The Ban Explained

Sinner completed a three-month suspension in February 2025 after the World Anti-Doping Agency approved his account that a banned anabolic steroid, clostebol, had been ingested unintentionally.

"This shadow will trail him just as the Covid controversy will follow me, for the rest of his, or my career," Djokovic stated in an interview on a popular YouTube program.

"It is a situation where, it was so significant, and when that happens, with time it may lessen, but I don't think it will disappear. There's always going to be a certain group of people that will continually reference the incident."

The Champion's Viewpoint

Djokovic expressed belief that Sinner, his frequent training companion, "had no intentional involvement", but he then scrutinized how the player arranged to complete his ban without missing a grand slam.

"There is the lack of transparency, the inconsistency, the convenient timing of the suspension occurring between major events, so he avoids skipping important competitions – it's just it was very, very odd," Djokovic added.

Broader Tennis Community Response

"I really don't like how the case was being handled and you could hear numerous fellow athletes, both male and female, who had comparable circumstances coming out in the media and asserting it represented favorable handling."
